Chronicles of Kyrvaast

SoDI: Session 0a - Arriving in Mistport

SoDI: Session 0a – Arriving in Mistport

A minisession for the first batch of players

Real Life Date of Session: Sunday, August 14th.

Participating Players: Soft, Belle, Griffin, Dakota, Ryan, and Tarryn.

In-game Date: Yet to be determined.

A ship is sailing through the dark green waters of the Grimgal Sea, towards Darkfury Isle from the city of Korthas in northern Caladyr. On board the ship is Llanwellyn, a jovial faun follower of the Old Gods with a wolfhound companion simply called Doggie, [[Roe Mo'Rah]], a young female human warrior, Andrastus Roivas, an elven rogue, Tarafear Tomelinde, a female half-elven bard, Mulgor, a half-ogre mercenary, and Tiberius Kravstaf, a devotee of Khauros, the Lord of Storms. The PCs all have one thing in common: They are going to Darkfury Isle to hunt for the notorious Darkfury Devil.

The PCs speak with Moreg Drarn, a half-orc bounty hunter, who is also going to Darkfury Isle to hunt for the Darkfury Devil, in the cargohold of the ship which has turned into a tavern, as the main purpose of the voyage is to bring the bounty hunters to Darkfury Isle. It turns out that no one really knows what type of creature the Darkfury Devil is.

Darkfury Isle comes into sight. A small mountain range rises from the center of the isle, looming over the surrounding land. Black clouds hang above the isle, and thunder can be seen and heard, flaring up the dark evening sky.

The ship docks in Mistport's harbor and an old man who works for the Harbormaster walks out on the pier to welcome the bounty hunters. He informs them that the sheriff of the isle, Vigor Keldenheim, who has been appointed by the governor of the isle Admiral Selden Krayes to handle the Darkfury Devil business, is waiting for them in a tavern and inn called the The Blade and Stars with other bounty hunters, but just as he is about to escort them there, a crude sahuagin spear pierces his head and he falls into the dark harbor water. The sahuagin are difficult to see in the mist, but the PCs manage to kill off about four of them, before they retreat.

The PCs then proceed to The Blade and Stars, a large green three story building with a big round sign above the door, where a magically animated scimitar dances among blinking stars.

Vigor Keldenheim, a white-haired man with one white eye and one blue, welcomes the PCs and the session concludes.

SoDI: Session 0b1 - New in Korthas

SoDI: Session 0b1 – New in Korthas

A minisession inlcuding one new player and two of the original players, taking place some time prior to the main storyline, in the city of Korthas, in northern Caladyr.

Real Life Date of Session: Monday, August 15th.

Participating Players: CountryWeasel, Dakota, and Ryan.

In-game Date: Yet to be determined.

"Korthas. Northernmost city in the Kaiserdom of Caladyr. Some Caladyrians refer to it as Northgate and think of it as the northernmost bastion of true civilization at the edge of more savage lands. Hah. Sometimes you have to laugh at how these soft-handed powderasses think, always believing their way of life to be the superior one. Wouldn't you agree, Saer Gill?" – Kargron

In this session we come to meet one new PC - Gill, a magically talented krimir, played by Chris – as well as learn some more about the Caladyrian city of Korthas on the mainland of Kyrvaast, particularly about its underworld.

Gill has just arrived in Korthas and is walking through its Harbor District accompanied by the Galdorian swordsman Kargron, whom Gill has befriended on his journey there, when they are ambushed by ruffians who want to rob them of their weapons and valuables.

At the same time, our elven rogue [[Andrastus Roivas]] is watching the ruffians set up the ambush from the rooftops, and Mulgor, our beloved not-so-bright half-ogre is taking a drunken piss in an alley in the same area.

The PCs disperse of the thugs, and learn that they are working for a criminal organization called The Laughing Shadow and its leader The Grinning One, who is supposedly the King of Korthas' underworld.

The four of them (Gill, Andrastus, Mulgor, and Kargron) then make their way to [[The Red Lady's Meadhall]], a tavern where Kargron is supposed to find his friend, the red-haired krimirGhelan Poltus.

They meet Ghelan, who offers them 1,500 gp to kill the troll Raka-Chal, who is the leader of a ring of criminals who are rival to The Laughing Shadow, and are informed that they will be able to find Raka-Chall that same night in the tavern The Eye of Khamanu on Eagle Bridge.

SoDI: Session 1 - First Night in Mistport 1/?

In which the PCs meet the Glowing One and go down into a crypt to look for his missing familiar, the fire mephit Melvin.

Real Life Date of Session: Sunday, August 21st/Sat Aug 22nd.

Participating Players: Griffin, Dakota, and Loktai.

In-game Date: Yet to be determined.

"There are rules you must follow during your stay on Darkfury Isle. First, you are not to bother Admiral Krayes under any circumstances. Always come to me. Second, you are under no circumstances allowed to in any way hurt, steal, or damage the property of any lawful citizen of Darkfury Isle, or you shall be dealt with swiftly and without mercy. That is not a threat, my good men and women. That is merely the Law on Darkfury Isle. Third, any wanted persons, dissidents, deserters, or practicioneers of criminal activities you encounter on this isle, shall be reported immediately to me. If you apprehend them and bring them to me, you shall be given fair payment. Fourth, there are no freebies. Everyone on this isle has to make a living. You are not somehow above the common laws of trade. Fifth rule. Do not disturb the peace. You are not here to get drunk and cause a mess. You are here to hunt for the Darkfury Devil. Drunkards causing trouble in any establishment or in the streets shall be dealt with appropriately. Also, try to disturb the good citizens of Darkfury Isle as little as possible. I know you have to investigate, but I don't want any unnecessary complaints, alright." – Vigor Keldenheim, Sheriff of Darkfury Isle

Llanwellyn and Doggie, the faun druid and his wolf-hound companion, Mulgor the half-ogre, and Loktai Thornton, a half-orc paladin of Almeya, are among the bounty hunters gathered at [[The Blade & Stars]] tavern and inn in Mistport. Vigor Keldenheim, the sheriff of Darkfury Isle, lays down the rules for the bounty hunters of how they must behave while they are on the isle. He also suggests that the bounty hunters start their hunt by talking with some of the witnesses to the Darkfury Devil. He tells them that the closest witness, Jerago Phenlin, a shepherd and farmer lives by the old lighthouse on the cliffs just outside of Mistport.

The PCs then speak with the innkeeper, [[Madaea Norine]], a beautiful elven woman, who serves them some food and drink, and asks them if they would do her favor, and check up on The Glowing One, a mage who lives by the old statue of Almeya behind [[The Blade & Stars]].

"The Glowing One's an old mage who accidentally transformed himself into some sort of energy wraith, and is now begging Almeya for mercy and pity. He has lived by the old statue of Almeya behind the Blade & Stars for almost two years now. In the beginning it was just him and his familiar Melvin, but since then a small camp of other people looking for pity from the Maiden of Mercy, has grown up around the statue." – Madaea Norine, Innkeeper at the Blade & Stars

Loktai speaks with a man named Lucien Vartem, a rather greedy accountant, who upon being paid a few gold coins, tells Loktai a bit about The Glowing One and about the local criminals who call themselves the Mistport Cutthroats.

The PCs then leave [[the Blade & Stars]] to go look for The Glowing One.

"He knows I don't like to be alone in the dark. Oh, why didn't he listen to me?" – The Glowing One

The PCs learn that The Glowing One's familiar, the fire mephit Melvin, has went into the old cemetery beyond the wall behind the statue of Almeya, to investigate some weird noices they heard, despite The Glowing One telling him not to go. The Glowing One tell the PCs who offer to help in turn for information, that there is a secret entrance to the cemetery behind a nearby crate. The PCs go to search for Melvin.

In the cemetery, they soon find the corpse of the grounds keeper near the opened entrance to a crypt. They decide to investigate further and venture down into the crypt.

Down in the crypt the PCs encounter a group of grave robbers (who probably murdered the grounds keeper). One of them claim to be Skaen, leader of the Mistport Cutthroats.

Loktai takes up a defensive position behind his shield in the doorway as the grave robbers begin to shoot crossbow bolts at them. Mulgor charges into the room and kills the one claiming to be Skaen. All in all, the PCs disperse of four grave robbers, while a fifth is on his way out of the crypt. (Doggie has been sent after the one that is escaping.)
